Quick question about gp and ndis.
Hi, my papers for NDIS arrived and I have an appt with the gp to fill them out tomorrow morning. Problem is I have known him for almost 20 years and he has treated all the family; he's part doc, part friend. I feel really uncomfortable about seeing him for my psych issues. If I go somewhere else though, I don't know if the info will make it back to him. I mean, is there some kind of computer thing where my info is available to all doctors or if I go to another doctor, it will be totally private, including specialist letters I might get referred to?

Re: Quick question about gp and ndis.
NDIS nor your GP will judge you. However, if you are not comfortable disclosing anything with your GP then have your medical files transferred to one you are comfortable with because it will only affect you

Re: Quick question about gp and ndis.
Hi @Lemonjuice. I'm not exactly sure what information your current GP may be able to access if/when you become a participant of the NDIS. Your question made me think about who may have access to information about me because of the NDIS and what info that may be, though!
You could try calling the NDIA on 1800 800 110 or having a look through the NDIA Privacy Policy for more information.
You might also want to check out My Health Record (there's some info in this thread and this site) if you havent already and you're concerned about your GP accessing information about you.
Hope that helps 🙂

Re: Quick question about gp and ndis.
Hi @Lemonjuice sorry I've been away for a holiday and wasn't online since last monday morning. Hoping you sorted out your GP question. As far as I know you can ask a new GP not to involve a previous one, and yes you can request your file from one clinic to be sent to the new Dr. But also as far as I know you have to opt out of My Health Record or else your history will be available to any Drs who access it. Good to see @CheerBear gave you the link for that.
Only people who you sign a consent form with can access your NDIS information.
