Hello , I don’t have much money but I’m desperate to have help treatment therapy specifically for BPD , I have had therapy for about 30 years but as I’m now 65 I feel as though I’m getting worse , I believe that I have not had the proper therapy that was just for BPD ., Like I have said I am desperate because it has now gotten to a point where my marriage of over 30 years is at stake , I want to save our marriage , I love my husband but my BPD is destroying it and destroying both of us . Please please if there is someone that can help me help us.I am so willing to overcome this terrible part of me and I will do all I can to help get over this forever and feel peace and happiness with my husband and people and family around me , is there anywhere in Melbourne where I can get help being on a pension. Any help is appreciated 🙏

Re: Treatment in Melbourne ?

Hello and welcome @Ruby61,

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I can't imagine how tough things must be right now, but I want to commend you for reaching out and asking for support - that takes courage.

I can hear you absolutely adore your husband and I have no doubt that with the right nurturing and guidance, you will see changes in your dynamic.

I would recommend looking into Spectrum first and seeing if there is support available for you: https://www.spectrumbpd.com.au/

Their cost details are listed here: https://www.spectrumbpd.com.au/treatments/costs

Please let me know how you go! 🫶

Re: Treatment in Melbourne ?

Hi @Ruby61 . Welcome to the forums! Like @AuntGlow mentioned, you can try to contact Spectrum in Melbourne but you may have trouble getting linked in with them as I know that you usually have to be linked in with a Area Mental Health Service - done through a hospital or community mental health service - with them doing a referral to them to consider if they’ll take you on as a client. My housemate has just spent the last 9 months doing this with her being under the care of our regions area mental health service and is still trying to get services from Spectrum with her case manager getting her acceptance to the service. They have a huge demand for their services and are now limited to who they can help due to not enough qualified staff and funding cuts to the whole mental health area in Victoria overall. They also target the most at risk clients to receive their treatment and support due to the demand on their services. My housemate was also told to use her private health insurance to get treatment in the private sector because of these issues accessing treatment options in the public system which she can’t afford.

There are unfortunately limited options that are cost effective for BPD in Victoria including Melbourne as I’ve since learnt via my housemate and her research into this condition and available treatment and support services. It’s like BPD is an issue the government doesn’t care about and want to fund despite it having major implications on the person and others around them and that’s a shame as these people are great people and deserve help just like other health conditions.

Take care.
