Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

@Jynx I have two assignments, but I’m focusing on the write up for one, and the proof reading of the other.

Yeah it sucks, because it helps with migraines. At least it delays the onset and then they don’t build up to the same intensity over that shorter period of time. Like I’m in no ways saying matcha is a substitute for meds, but it does make it a bit easier to manage migraines and MH alongside my regular meds. It’s not a miracle though, but way better than nothing. I mean diet, exercise and sleep still have a place

Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

@creative_writer yeah it all has a place hey, gotta look at ourselves holistically to get a proper picture. Meds are always gonna be more effective when combined with good self-care and a space to safely work through our issues.

Have you delved into the science of migraines and figured out why caffeine can provide relief? Just in case there's something else that could perform a similar function.

Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

@Jynx I wonder if it’s somehow linked with brain chemicals. Migraines and depression are both linked with brain chemistry, might explain why it does something. I don’t know

Could be worth looking into @creative_writer

Hope tomorrow is migraine-free and your study goes well. Till next time 💜

Superpowers - Hyperfocus and Hyperfixation.

@Jynx  can you have one superpower and not the other?

Can both superpowers be used at different points during a project?

Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

@Jynx my brain chemistry is so screwed up. I often find myself looking for external sources to fix it. I probably would have to look into it a bit more.

@Glisten they can certainly feel like superpowers as long as you don't forget to eat, drink water, or make dinner like I did the other day. It certainly helps you get stuff done though

@creative_writer @Jynx @Shaz51

I was diagnosed 20 years ago with ADD and have been medicated ever since. Medication certainly makes life a whole lot easier.

Most of my family has dyslexia and anxiety + ADHD.

But as my estrogen levels are getting lower, the medication is not as effective.

Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

@Glisten I don't take meds or been formally diagnosed, need to go through the process, but my psych thinks I have enough symptoms from screening. I have my pdoc appointment at the end of the month. I just live off tea, it works to some extent during the day, but my mind is a mess at night, the thoughts are like noisy kids in a room. I can't have caffeine at night or I won't sleep

Hormones can play a role in the chemicals in your brain, sometimes meds need changes, I hope your pdoc is able to find a way to work around it ❤️

I'm not sure, I guess so? Everyone is different, and that is also true amongst ND folks - there's so many associated 'symptoms' (or traits as I prefer to call them) and everyone seems to have a mixture of them, but some may experience certain traits to a more or lesser degree.

And yes, I think there's gonna be a LOT of overlap - I will frequently lose myself in hyperfocus when I am hyperfixating on a new thing! I think my biggest hurdle is that I can't just 'switch it on' - if I'm not interested in a project (or more to the point, if I'm not getting dopamine feedback because it is not my current hyperfixation), then I won't just be able to say 'HYPERFOCUS MODE ACTIVATE' like some wonky little ADHD PowerRanger to get it done. I believe it's related to this concept: Interest-Based Nervous System.

Oh yeah I think this is a known thing, but one that I was NOT told by any of my treating team. Apparently during menstruation we need higher doses to get same effect. Wish it was common knowledge.
