Support & Resources : Adult (M30) with Autism/ADHD and mental health crisis

Hi All,
I'm new here and a mum supporting her adult son.  He was born with moderate/severe autism & ADHD and I learned all I could as I walked with him on this journey into early adulthood.  He is now fully verbal, works full time, lives independently.

In his early twenties he was managing his mental health really well so I moved into the background.  Truly amazing.  Until late January this year - he ended an 9 month relationship with a woman who didn't take care of her own serious mental health issues and he has burnt himself out physically, emotionally, financially trying to support her until in January he had a breakdown so intense I called an ambulance.  He was not admitted to hospital and his brother (M31) and myself are helping him recover.

I would like to ask for any resources - books, websites, support groups, clinics/psychology services with a focus on autism that members here can recommend.  My skills are outdated and realistically are based on supporting children/youth.  I need resources relevant to supporting an independent adult.  He has had 3 big meltdowns and is taking medications but I am looking to develop insight and how to support him on a daily basis.

Thank you for taking time to read a bit of a long post 🙂

NB: I am signed up for the Guided Recovery Program also

Hello @LearningAgain and welcome to the forums

It's wonderful to have you here and to hear that you've also signed up for the guided recovery service, those are some great steps to take!

I'm sure that some others on here will have some great resources to share, but I thought I'd start by sharing Carer Gateway, which offers support and services specifically for carers

And Amaze have some free supports for those with Autism and their families and carers

I look forward to hearing from other members on this
